手漉き和紙と機械漉き和紙の違いは、「人が漉くか、機械でつくるか」だけではありません。紙の中で繊維がどのように並び、重なり、脱水や乾燥の過程でどの程度まで締められるかによって、紙質は大きく変わります。
The difference between handmade and machine-made washi is not simply whether the paper is made by hand or by machine. It lies in how fibres are arranged, layered, dewatered, and dried within the sheet.
