To ensure the future of gampi paper, it is essential not only to preserve the paper-making techniques but also to preserve, cultivate, and regenerate the gampi plants—the raw material—in the mountains. In this article, I will document the procedures and experiences involved in actually raising gampi seedlings—from seed collection to overwintering storage, germination promotion, sowing, transplanting, permanent planting, root division, and cuttings. I believe it is necessary not only to rely on wild harvesting but also to grow seedlings from seed and return them to the mountains.雁皮紙を将来へつなぐためには、紙を漉く技術だけでなく、原料となる雁皮を山に残し、育て、更新していく仕事が欠かせません。本稿では、採種から越冬保存、発芽促進、播種、移植、定植、根分け、挿し木まで、実際に行っている雁皮苗づくりの手順と経験を記録します。山採りに頼るだけでなく、種子から苗を育てて山へ戻すことが必要のことと考えます
